S.Coups

Choi Seungcheol, known by his stage name S.Coups, is the leader and main rapper of SEVENTEEN. Born on August 8, 1995, in Daejeon, South Korea, he was scouted by Pledis Entertainment as a young teenager and spent approximately three years training before the group's debut. His natural charisma and authoritative presence made him an obvious choice for the leadership role, and he has guided SEVENTEEN with warmth and strength since their debut in May 2015.

As leader of SEVENTEEN and captain of the Hip-hop Unit, S.Coups has been the group's anchor through their meteoric rise. His rap style is characterized by a commanding delivery that balances aggression with melodic sensibility, contributing to title tracks like "Fear," "Left & Right," and "Super." He actively participates in the group's creative process and has spoken openly about the responsibility and pressure that come with leading thirteen members.

S.Coups has demonstrated exceptional resilience throughout his career, including navigating a hiatus in late 2018 due to a knee injury. He returned to full activity in 2019 and received a Grade 5 military exemption due to an anxiety disorder, allowing him to continue participating in SEVENTEEN's activities during the period when other members are fulfilling their mandatory service obligations.

Known among fans and members as "Daddy Coups" for his protective and caring leadership style, S.Coups has cultivated one of the most beloved group dynamics in K-pop. His close bond with Jeonghan — the famous "JeongCheol" friendship — is frequently highlighted in variety content. Under his leadership, SEVENTEEN has grown from a self-producing rookie group to one of the best-selling K-pop acts in history, selling over 20 million albums as of 2024.
