About Woojin

Woojin, born Kim Woo-jin on April 8, 1997 in Bucheon, South Korea, was the main vocalist of Stray Kids from the group's debut in March 2018 until his departure in October 2019. As the group's lead vocal throughout their formative period, Woojin's powerful, emotive tenor voice was a defining element of Stray Kids' sound across their first four mini-albums — Mixtape, I am NOT, I am WHO, and I am YOU — and two repackages, Clé 2: Yellow Wood and the limited Clé: Levanter.

Woojin trained at JYP Entertainment and participated in the Stray Kids survival reality show, passing the evaluations to debut as part of the nine-member lineup in 2018. His vocal abilities were prominently featured on early Stray Kids recordings, contributing the melodic foundation over which the group's rap-heavy productions were built. Songs like "My Pace," "Part: Why," and "My Side" featured his emotional range prominently, and his voice was widely praised by fans and critics in the group's early years.

On October 27, 2019, JYP Entertainment announced that Woojin was leaving Stray Kids due to "personal reasons." The announcement came approximately six months after the group's successful Clé 1: MIROH comeback. The remaining eight members continued as a group and have gone on to become one of the most successful K-pop acts in the world, with their membercount noted as eight in promotional materials from late 2019 onward.

Following his departure, Woojin pursued a solo music career, releasing original material and continuing to develop as an artist outside the idol system. He has maintained a presence in the music industry and has been remembered by dedicated portions of the STAY fandom with continued affection. His contributions to Stray Kids' early discography remain an important part of the group's foundational story.
