Soyeon

Jeon Soyeon was born on August 26, 1998, in South Korea. She first gained public attention when she participated in Mnet's MIXNINE in 2017 as a YG Entertainment trainee, finishing in a strong position before the project fell through. She subsequently joined Cube Entertainment and was selected as a founding member and creative nucleus of (G)I-DLE, debuting on May 2, 2018. From her very first release, Soyeon's role as the group's principal writer, composer, and producer distinguished (G)I-DLE from most of their contemporaries.

As (G)I-DLE's leader and main creative force, Soyeon is responsible for writing, composing, and producing the vast majority of the group's discography — a level of creative ownership that is rare among idol group members, particularly women. She conceptualizes album themes, crafts lyrics with remarkable versatility (spanning fierce hip-hop manifestos, tender ballads, and satirical pop), and produces tracks that consistently push the boundaries of K-pop's sonic conventions. Her body of work with (G)I-DLE includes chart-topping hits that reshaped the trajectory of fourth-generation girl group music.

Soyeon released her debut solo mini album "Windy" on July 5, 2021. The project, led by the unconventional lead single "BEAM BEAM," showcased her ability to express a wildly experimental side of her artistry free from the group's collective identity. She is also celebrated for her solo stages at (G)I-DLE concerts, which are consistently among the most discussed and praised performances of any show.

Despite her formidable artistic reputation, Soyeon is known for her vivid personality — competitive, self-aware, and possessed of a sharp sense of humor. She has been candid about the rejection she experienced during MIXNINE and how it sharpened her determination. Within (G)I-DLE, she balances strong, decisive leadership with genuine care for her members, and her dual identity as both creative architect and warm group leader is central to understanding what makes (G)I-DLE's chemistry work.
